How to Save Your Marriage by Having the Right Approach
The first problem to acknowledge if you are facing a crisis in your marriage is yourself. This may sound a little harsh, but how you are looking at the situation clearly affects how you deal with it. In this regard many people are their own worst enemy. Feeling negative and depressed only worsens the difficulties faced. The last thing you should do is let your emotions overtake you and the situation. If they do you become more desperate which leads to things like begging, crying and pleading.
On the other hand, staying calm and taking stock of the situation will put you in much better stead. Consider with a clear mind what to do and avoid any rash acts. Looking for a quick fix may work for the short term but it won’t last and can often just make matters worse.
Instead of dwelling on the negative, focus on the good. This may go against instinct but if you want to save your marriage it is essential. Think of the good times you have had together and regard the bad, such as your current situation, as a phase that you pass through. This mentality may take quite a bit of self-discipline but it will show in your actions and attitude. Above all, being positive makes it far harder for your spouse to be negative.
Show that you have an open mind, are willing to listen and be flexible, but make sure you set limits to this otherwise you could fall into that trap of desperation. Finding the right balance can be quite an art but if you do then you have done your part and you can’t really ask more of yourself.
Sit down with your partner and let them talk openly and honestly to you. Avoid the temptation to interrupt or get angry. Ask them about how they feel regarding the situation and how you can save the marriage. Recognize that you are going to hear some things that you did not want to hear, and ask what your faults are so you can put them right. This will give you a starting point to work from and providing it is acted on, your partner should play their part and the relationship can move forward.
